What Is A Video Balun?

A video balun is a device that allows you to transmit video over Cat5 cable. This is one of the best time saving tools I’ve come accross in a long time. One a recent security camera installation[, I had to add 3 cameras to an existing system. The owner wanted to mount all 3 cameras security cameras on a telephone pole about 120 feet away

The problem here is two fold. The weight of 3 Coax cables is quite heavy and would require a thick steal carrier wire and hardware which is expensiveTrucks have to pass under the wire. The weight would also cause the wire to sag below a safe margin of error.

What I decided to do is use CCTV video baluns to transmit the video over Cat5. It was like killing 2 birds with one stone
